Can a solar power plant burn?
A picture speaks 1000 words, so let’s look at the following recent examples from Croatia…

The answer is self-evident…
Yes, solar power plants can burn, can start fires, and can make firefighting more difficult!
Especially risky are solar power plants installed on flat roofs, which colleagues from the Slovenian Institute vividly demonstrated in their video available at the following link: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7173283772212133888/
What to do?
The risk always exists, but it is possible to reduce it to the minimum possible, and you will achieve this by choosing:
- A DESIGNER who understands this problem, has experience and knows what details need to be taken care of.
- A CONTRACTOR who understands this issue, has experience and knows what details need to be taken care of.
- EQUIPMENT (primarily modules and inverters) that meet fire protection requirements with their characteristics.
Why is this so little talked about in public?
Technology advances at lightning speed, and legislation is sluggish and slow and does not keep up with technological progress itself. For this reason, there are all kinds of business entities on the market that focus on the lowest price, without giving sufficient importance to safety, because they are not obliged to do so by legal regulations in a way that would be clear and unambiguous. In addition to the above, it should be pointed out that solar power plants must work safely for the next 25 years, and some of the problems will not be visible in the first few years of exploitation, and for now there is an appearance that everything is in the best order, even though it is not.
Who to turn to?
In Croatia, there is a huge amount of all kinds of companies that now deal with solar power plants, but only a few companies that deal with the design and construction of solar power plants really know the risks and apply the latest available technical solutions to reduce the risk of fire to a minimum. Without false modesty, this group of companies also includes TESLA d.o.o. for designing and the sister company TELUX d.o.o. for the execution of works.
